Women On Site & Sheridan College: Take on Camp-Ak-O-Mak

Building safer spaces for girls requires intention, collaboration, and care 💜

From June 25–27, Women On Site was proud to host 3 activities for Sheridan College at Camp Ak-O-Mak during the Women in Trades camp. Over the course of the weekend, the focus went beyond hands-on learning, it was about coming together to help foster a sense of community, take time for reflection and to set intentions for the future.

At Camp Ak-O-Mak, participants contributed their skills to support improvements that prioritize safety, while also gaining exposure to the trades in a meaningful, community-driven way. It was a powerful reminder that the trades are not only about building structures, but also about building spaces where people (especially young girls) can feel secure, supported, and empowered.

Experiences like this matter. They show what’s possible when women come together, share knowledge, and invest in the next generation. Creating safer spaces is collective work, and it starts with initiatives like this.
